In India large size turbo-alternators have been successively introduced. For the same physical size a hydrogen cooled turbo-alternator can develop about 25. A turbocharger, colloquially known as a turbo, is a turbine-driven forced induction device that. A turbocharger's performance is closely tied to its size. In twin-scroll designs, the exhaust manifold physically separates the channels for.
Here at GCG Turbochargers, we get asked to high flow Turbochargers on a daily basis, however, sometimes the end user's understanding of high flowing a turbocharger is a little different to what the process actually involves. What is High Flowing? The term 'High Flowing' is quite a simple concept, it's basically a modification we perform on a turbocharger that allows it to flow more air than it does in it's standard form. This process involves either fitting a larger compressor wheel, a larger turbine wheel, or a new Ball Bearing core with a larger wheel combination, into the factory compressor and turbine housings.
In majority of applications, high flowing is extremely beneficial, including the ease of re-fitment due to the re-use of the factory end housings. This applies to petrol, and diesel applications. GCG have access to a large range of custom made billet full blade compressor wheels, which can be used to get the absolute most out of any high flow that we perform.Of course, due to turbocharger frame sizes, and supporting adaptation parts (bearing housing, backplate, compressor and turbine housing etc) there are limitations to high flowing. End housings can be quite small, or uniquely designed in some applications, which means the wheel combinations we can use are limited, but even with 2-3mm larger on the compressor or turbine wheel size can drastically increase power potential. What is a Ball Bearing Highflow/Conversion?
A Ball Bearing Highflow/Conversion involves using a Garrett GT or GTX Series Ball Bearing core assembly, and machining the factory compressor, and turbine housing to suit the larger wheel dimensions. This modification is by far the most effective of all the high flow options, and there is a huge range of different wheel combinations to choose from. The reason it's so effective is because in most cases, we are upgrading from a Journal Bearing system to Ball Bearing, and, we are upgrading an old wheel design to the new proven GT/GTX Series design. A Ball Bearing Highflow/Conversion can be performed to most factory applications, except for the VNT turbochargers (see Limitations heading further down the page)Can you High Flow a 'Performance' Turbocharger? Yes, this can be done, there are a number of race/drag cars that run our custom built turbochargers, and have been for many years. By 'Performance' Turbocharger, we mean an off the shelf Turbocharger built for the performance market ie: Garrett GT/GTX Series, Precision Turbochargers, Turbonetics, GReddy, Borg Warner etc. In some instances, we can have a billet full blade compressor wheel custom made to suit a particular requirement, within certain size limitations of course.
A great example of a 'performance' turbocharger high flow would be utilizing a Garrett T04Z 66mm Compressor wheel, and fitting it to a GT3582R, which has a standard compressor wheel size of 61.36mm.
