What about a Repeater Bridge? One way to decrease the impact on wireless clients is to use dual-band routers featuring both 2.4 and 5GHz bands. In the image below, one transmitter on each router is dedicated to the ‘WDS mode’, and the other radio transmitter rebroadcasts the signal using ‘Access Point’ mode. Jan 31, 2019 OpenWrt Downloads. Quotefrom eibgrad:For wireless bridging purposes, take your pick, it probably doesn't matter too much. As a typical router, a no-brainer, tomato (Shibby would be my choice). Thanks! So after i install it, is there an option of repeater mode in the firmware?Because in the back of the RT N12 router there is 3 choices: router, repeater, ap.
Do I just keep it on router and change an option in tomato to repeater? Because I can't seem to find a repeater option in the tomato firmware.Or do I put it to repeater mode in the back of the router? Once you install dd-wrt/tomato, forget about them, they're irrelevant. When using dd-wrt, you configure for 'repeater bridge' (NOT 'repeater'). Since 'repeater bridge' is actually a 'client bridge' to which a VAP (virtual AP) is added (that's actually how it's implemented), it can often be easier to configure the 'client bridge' first (which will only give you wired clients at the bridge), THEN change it to 'repeater bridge', add the VAP, and configure it for wireless security, thus adding wireless clients at the bridge as well.In the case of tomato, the original tomato/tomatousb firmware never supported repeating (and or guest networks) because they didn't support VAPs.

The original tomato/tomatousb support ended a few years ago, and since then, the mantle has been picked up by others, like Shibby and Toastman. I believe these do support VAPs, and therefore should support repeating in much the same way as dd-wrt.
